Frustrating

One of my courses, ANTH 23, the course "Multiculturalism" was pretty much bad organized. This should be well-organized! On Wednesday, the professor didn't show up the class. Can it be happen? Crazy. And every time we just see the film. The professor doesn't teach us anything. Such a class low our motivation very down...

Anyway, I met a new friend, at Friday night party. Every time we have a crazy party on Friday. He likes Asian language, and he can speak it more or less fluently. I can be a model to teach them Japanese. That was fun. (But this time, new friends said to me," You have a British accent. Why!?)

anyway, I am planing to go to Mexico. Tomorrow. I have to be careful////

Nice idea

This morning, I hit a good idea for breakfast. Every time I go to the dining restaurant to eat breakfast, they are serving hamburger, sandwiches....so oily food. Today, I made rice by rice-cooker, and bring it to the restaurant. I ordered only omlet with bacon. the omlet was not bad, then rice is of-course nice. This can be nice for me. I can eat this pattern every day.

Another nice thing is that I can be a model of native speaker of Japanese in the class of the linguistics class. We are now studying the phonetics, the science of the sound of the language. We analyze the pattern or rule of the sound of each language. Speaking of the Japanese sound, I was asked to pronounce Japanese in front of everyone... fun...

After class, I went to the swimming. I haven't worked out for a while. I need to do that as often as possible.

Today's lunchner (lunch+dinner) was Yakisoba. So nice.

This weekend, I am going to travel to Mexico....
I hope to be safe and I'm looking forward to go beyond the "border"

Encourage

Today I handed in first writing assignment to the class. I am a little bit worry about it. In Sophia University, everyone is not native speakers of English. Then the professor of the department of English who reads our assignments can find many grammatical mistakes in every student's papers and forgive some mistakes. But that does not happen in my class. The name of the class is "The history and the theory of bilingual education" and consists of one foreigner (me) and American students from CA. Unfortunately or fortunately, there is not any other international students than me. To be honest, I am a little nervous when I hand in my paper or do the discussion. I don't want to bother everyone. I have to encourage myself to pursue to this class even if I feel severe. In Japan I was heard again and again, "Never mind mistakes. Don't be afraid of making mistakes." (So were you?) This is true. I am really feeling that this is true. Even if I can't speak sophisticated English, I don't have to be disappointed. I can communicate more or less.

But at the same time, nowadays I am a little bit frustrated. That is because even if I like the contents of the class, I cannot be very active in discussion or debate in the class. If I were in Japanese university, I could speak pretty much the more than anyone in the class and give a lot of opinion. But  I cannot do that now.

My major interest is bilingual education, which is how we acquire languages or what is the best way for minority students who are not good at target language (in many case, English) of living or surviving in foreign countries (in many case, the United States).

I am now experiencing exactly the minority life.
Indeed language barriers is so big when we study in other communities.

wow

ah, I couldn't write the diary last night. I had so many assignments... Starting week 2, all the classes seem to be getting harder.. I have to catch up with them.

I tried the spaghettie with shrimp. That was so nice. Every time I cook and eat, I become so happy. On the other hand, even if I am hungry, every time I eat the dinner at dining restaurant on campus, I regret. Yesterday, I went to the dining restaurant for the breakfast, but there was nothing! There was just burger...oily burger. No salad, no fruit...

At night I went to see the volleyball club practice. I thought it seems that I can play among them, I would join them. As soon as I saw them I changed my mind. lol

They are too strong. Crazy. Many of them (maybe except for Libero) are taller and powerful than me. Their spike were....bomb...lol  That reminded me of Team "Narashino" in Chiba..when I was a high school. But of-course "Narashino" is still stronger. "Narashino" is the craziest team I have ever seen, even if they couldn't become national champion. It's a little bit difficult to explain, but they have a kind of aura of "dream-team". So was "Ichifuna". I love both teams.

Anyway, I wanted to play volleyball, I gave up.haha

But, I want to join some groups or org.! I failed the audition of a cappera, and I gave up joining the volleyball club. What should I do?

uh,,,

Should I make use of this time to study pretty much hard???

Hard

It has been a while since I got up at seven the last time. Anyway, I was able to get up at seven. After that I did the laundry, and study enough. Taking a lecture is getting fun.

At the UCSD computer store, I finally bought the printer. The printer is hp's brand and it costs $50. It's very cheap!, isn't it. This printer is originally $150. I got it for 70% cut off. The reason why I bought the printer is that every time I try to print, the school computer costs me $0.05 for each one piece of paper. Plus, the price was pretty much cheap. Then I bought it. this is so cool... But suddenly its inkjet became empty. What!? After only four hours I started to use, it became empty.

Today, I was able to follow the menu of study work more or less. That was fun. There are too many things to do..

I'm sleepy.

downtown

In the morning, I felt very bad... I received the e-mails from three chorus groups about the result of the Auditions. As you can imagine, I failed all of them...uhuh. It's ok I did my best. It is just because there were so many people who have much more music talent than I. That is very natural, because I didn't do anything special about music until now. I have experienced classroom music. But I need to start looking for another student clubs or organizations again. I want to make friends with local American students. hummmmm.

In the afternoon, I went to the Downtown of San Diego. Unfortunately, I forgot to bring my camera, so I couldn't take pictures. Actually there were nothing worth taking pictures. San Diego downtown is  a little bit far from La Jolla where I live in. It takes about 1.5~2 hours by bus and train. Surprisingly I can take bus for free using student ID card. UCSD students can go to the relatively far areas using this "free-bus" service. But if we cannot use such service, we will die. haha. This campus is big, but so rural. There is nothing!! Anyway, I went to the downtown. Accurately, first I went to the old town (a name of the town) and then had to use the train. Technically, train is not free.

But,

EVERYONE IN SAN DIEGO USES TRAIN FOR FREE, BECAUSE THERE IS NO TICKET CHECK. YOU CAN RIDE ON THE TRAIN WITHOUT ANY CHECK. PLAT-HOME IS OPEN TO EVERYONE. INDEED, WE CAN SEE THE TICKET MACHINE WHERE WE "SHOULD" BUY TICKET. BUT NO ONE DOES IT. EVERYONE USES THE TRAIN FOR FREE. CRAZY.

I found San Diego very rural city compared to Tokyo. No, I should say, I found Tokyo very special sophisticated city in the world. In San Diego there is not so many attractive place even in downtown. Every transportations are not punctual. The town is just dirty. Town is relatively dark. (I felt dangerous when I walk in downtown street and was spoken to by strange black home-less longing for money. He said, "Hey, duyya have money? I wanna exchange...just exchange,,, pleasee..." Of course it is not just exchange, so I ran away. It was a little bit dangerous...) The UCSD campus is very safe, but I found I cannot walk in outside campus, especially town like downtown. This is not obviously different from Tokyo which is very bright even at night. We should be happy to live in Japan.

Anyway, finally I got used to this life.

Then...

From tomorrow, I will study hard!

I've decided to study so hard while I am in the United States.

1st: To gain a lot of academic knowledge and become very cool person in academic beyond the field of study. I want to be cool in academic widely.

2nd: To make my English skills close to native-like perfectly as much as possible. I found those who want to teach English should aim at perfect English skills. Right? I know. Of-course I know. Second language acquisition is not easy at all (this is one of my major researches.) But we should aim, isn't it?

I have to make a nice schedule....

entertainment

Today, in the morning I took two auditions for chorus groups. I think I did my best. The only thing I can do is to just pray..  I wonder if I can sing on the stage..

After that,  I studied and did my homework in the library. Why do I have so many reading assignment? I was assigned more than 100 pages in a week. I can't do it. It seems like that everyone doesn't do it...lol

At dinner, I found very good taste Asian restaurant in the student center. That is very good news. I can eat food there every time from now on...

At night, I went to see the UCSD women's volleyball game. That was excited! But I thought Japanese university women's volleyball is stronger.. haha. Seeing the game reminded me of my high school days. That was the most important, precious, excited, and passionate time in my life even in now. (I felt a little bit nostalgic... Any good memories cannot be better than High school day's memory.)

Speaking of high school days, have you guys read "Issyunn no kaze ni nare " by Takako Sato

I read it now. lol (I check out this book from the library)

This is so exciting and very realistic! I'm sure that it reminds us of our high school days..
You should read it!

Finally, I recognized that I like volleyball the best ever withing any sports.
